CLINICAL COUNSELING
& ASSOCIATES
counseling (noun):
something that provides direction as to a decision or course of action

Welcome
We've all heard the expression life is a journey. But what about when the journey is confusing & complicated? Or just downright messy. Are you walking through a confusing and challenging season in life? Are you struggling with depression or anxiety, PTSD, trauma, grief and loss, problems in relationships, self esteem issues, or addiction? I believe counseling can provide direction, like a compass or a map, to help us find our way forward.
I use a combination of different therapies that focus on how our brains and our bodies process painful experiences. I also explore how these past experiences might be impacting our current functioning and our ability to manage the events going on in our lives. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as other experiential therapies, to explore how these past, painful experiences continue to show up in our lives- and how to achieve relief from the symptoms they create (anxiety, depression, low self esteem/worth, problems in intimate relationships, etc). I also recognize that faith and spirituality can be an important part of the process of healing and moving forward from past hurts, and I'm happy to incorporate faith based practices in counseling as well. I work with adults (19+) for indivdual sessions and specialize in trauma and grief therapy. The blend of modalities I use is effective in creating lasting changes that can bring about the peace we are all searching for.

Hello
Holly Durhan, LPC-S
Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor
About Me
I am a Florida native, which is where I was originally licensed as a counselor. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 1997 with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. I immediately started a graduate program in Counseling and Psychology at a satellite campus for Troy University, and graduated with my Masters Degree in 1999. While in Florida I worked in a variety of capacities, including as a school social worker, an adoption specialist in helping children and families through the transition of adoption, a program director of a "step down" residential facility, an outpatient counselor at a community mental health center, and as the co-owner and therapist at my own private practice. I relocated to North Alabama in 2011 and during my time as an Alabamian, I have worked at an inpatient addiction treatment center, on adolescent and adult inpatient psychiatric units, as a case manager, and now, again, as the owner and therapist at my own private practice, Clinical Counseling & Associates. I'm also a certified Counselor Supervisor and provide supervision for Associate Licensed Counselors seeking full licensure. I additionally hold a telemedicine certificate with the Florida Department of Health, in order to provide virtual counseling to the residents of the state of Florida. With nearly 30 years in the field of mental health I've had many different roles, all of which have contributed to the extensive professional experience I'm able to share with you.
